Reasons for Failure:
• Condensation in the heater fan motor will slowly seize it, putting an extra load on the resistor. As the motor tries to work harder, it requires more power from the resistor, causing failure.
• General wear and tear of the motor puts an extra load on the resistor, causing it to blow.
Change both the heater fan motor and resistor at the same time. The resistor is likely to last just a few weeks if replaced alone, as the worn out motor will continue to require more power than the resistor can cope with, resulting in recurring failure.
Replacing the resistor only takes about 30 minutes, but most garages take 1.5 – 2 hours to replace both the fan and the resistor.
