True Technical Support

Gates launches the TechPartner programme that aims at promoting best practice amongst the installers of its products.

Gates has a dedicated UK technical team responsible for support, developing service concepts and training initiatives to help motor factors and garages with new technology to help boost sales. More than ever, garages need a strong partner to help them keep pace; a partner that guarantees the supply of OE spare parts and share their wealth of expertise and experience.

The Gates TechPartner programme, available now, has been conceived to offer just that: a partnership between garages, participating motor factors and Gates to provide enhanced technical support to the aftermarket, promoting best practice amongst the installers of its products. Along with an extensive range of products, Gates will provide technical support on a regular basis, including subsidised tooling, free training and installation information as well as fully branded merchandise for the Gates TechPartner programme.

By signing up for the programme, the installer will also be eligible for an extended warranty period of 2 years, on top of the current 2 years or 60,000 miles warranty on offer. During the extended warranty period, Gates will also cover the standard labour costs incurred (VAT excluded)*.

TechPartner programme benefits at a glance:
• In-depth technical training in the field of synchronous and accessory drive system maintenance and repair.
• Easy access to full range of specialised tools to correctly install and maintain parts.
• Peace of mind due to an exclusive extended warranty.
• Enhanced reputation through working directly with an OE supplier and drive system specialist.
• Regular technical newsletters to stay up-to-date via

To benefit from the extended warranty programme, an installer must adhere to the following:
• willingness to undertake the necessary training freely available from Gates.
• commitment to use the recommended tools, if technically required.
• ability to perform all work according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
• display the branded Gates TechPartner signage in the workshop.

Increasingly, belt set up procedures are becoming drive system specific. The correct tool (shown right) must be used to ensure that installation can be carried out according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.

Without these specialist tools, errors can occur during routine maintenance. Consequences include premature failure of the drive belt or tensioner, damaged drive system components or even the destruction of the engine, resulting in costly warranty claims and ultimately, unsatisfied customers.

The role of the motor factor is essential to this programme as the TechPartner concept can only be successful when all three partners, Gates, the motor factor and the garage, work together. To further support the factors’ involvement in the programme, all necessary tool packs will be readily offered via FPS so that in turn, they can be hired by or sold to the installer directly.

Special TechPartner workshops will be provided free of charge as well in order to help sign up the garage customers to the TechPartner programme. Additional promotional material will also be readily available.
