Although they look almost identical, the two EGR valves offered by Pierburg are not interchangeable.

The EGR valve functions to recirculate a metered quantity of exhaust gas back into the combustion process. This, it is an integral part of the modern engine management system.

By reducing the amount of oxygen entering the chamber, the EGR valve reduces the temperature reached during the combustion process and helps to increase engine efficiency. This in turn reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel and petrol engines.

Whilst they look similar, there are key differences between these EGR valves and they cannot be fitted interchangeably.

The EGR valves differ in the following ways:

  • Pin assignment
  • Valve stroke
  • Volumetric flow (throughput)
  • Position of the connections
