FPS is supporting their customer Motor Parts Direct (MPD) in their efforts to send 40,000 books -educational or otherwise, to Kenya and India for use in schools. The aim is to support the education of underprivileged children where accessibility to educational resources are limited.
As a result of poverty and marginalisation, more than 72 million children of primary school age are not in school.
Following last year’s successful Book Drive, Motor Parts Direct (MPD) has teamed up with four charities in an attempt to collect over 40,000 books to send to less privileged children in Kenya and India.
The aim is to facilitate these children’s right to education by providing academic resources as far as the A-Level Curriculum. However, any books written in English are welcome in order to bring the joy of learning and reading to others.
MPD are hosting an open collection drive on the 7th July in Edgware. This is where donations will be delivered, and books will be sorted and packed for shipping and distribution. From here, the books will be shipped to Kenya where Kalaniketan Shishukunj -Nairobi will manage the distribution, and India where Ratna Nidhi Trust will organise the delivery.
Last year, MPD were able to, with the help of six organisations, deliver 2x 40ft clothes containers to Syria and a 40ft books container to Kenya.
Our teams across the network are collecting books to help MPD achieve their targets.
You can also help to support this valuable cause by donating any books to your local branch by Friday 29th June 2018. We will then ensure that they make their way to the collection drive on 7th July, to be sorted and packed for their onward journey.
