FPS holds an extensive product portfolio that is effectively dealt with from the company’s National Distribution Centre (NDC) in Sheffield. Built in 2006, the NDC has 176,000 sq. ft. of space and holds 15m stock items under one roof.
Since its construction, the NDC has undergone continual expansion. At the end of last year, a new mezzanine floor was added. This created an additional 3,960 sq. ft. that have been utilised to store component brands, including Elta, Algo, WWA and Shaftec. The introduction of a new mezzanine floor allows FPS to better service the diverse needs of their extensive customer base.
Earlier in 2014, FPS had expanded entering the Leisure and Industrial markets. This, coupled with the growing Automotive Component and Maintenance & Accessories ranges, meant it was necessary to extend their warehouse capacity further. To accommodate their growing portfolio, FPS procured more warehouse space, with three buildings nearby in Sheffield.
It was important when obtaining warehouse space that potential for future expansion was built in. As product ranges expand and FPS enters new markets, the addition of mezzanine floors has proved a quick and efficient way of creating more space when the need arises.
The NDC is supported by a network of 20 regional distribution centres across the UK. Typically, a branch has 12,000 sq. ft. of space and 20 sq. ft. of racking. Each branch holds 45,000 lines of stock and is serviced by the NDC overnight. This excellent local availability allows FPS to offer customers a same or next day delivery service.
Across the UK, FPS acts an extension to customers’ warehouse operations, consolidating their offering of over 380 suppliers and brands with no minimum order quantities and next day distribution. FPS is the perfect partner for customers who do not have the capacity to regularly order from suppliers.
